“Speechless” is a song that is new for this updated version of the movie, and as Alan Menken and Guy Ritchie shared, it is designed to not only fit today’s political and cultural climate of women speaking up, but it also fixed the only ‘problem’ some see with the original Aladdin: a somewhat passive princess Jasmine. ![]() I may have tricked you, because one of the songs in that video is a new one from the movie. Give it a listen and tell me how many of them you still remember every single word to! He sat down at this beautiful grand piano and played a medley of some of the most popular Disney movie songs. Our interview started with an almost ten-minute performance by award-winning composer, Alan Menken. (The arm is in the box, too, because I couldn’t reattach it anymore.) “Never Had a Friend Like Me” was one of the few songs my son would sing, and the opportunity to hear it again was the first thing I thought about when I heard Disney was remaking the original animated movie. That CD served us well, and we still have it in a box somewhere, alongside my son’s very raggedy plush Genie, missing the arm that he’d use to drag it around the house, everywhere he went. We’re still happily married, so I think we did it right.Īt the time, we were listening to the movie’s soundtrack on repeat. When we got married 25 years ago, I chose to walk down the aisle to the music of one of my son’s favorite movies, Disney’s Aladdin, long before I ever knew I’d get to attend a future Aladdin cast interview. Round 0: Readied Hand Crossbow and Loaded I have to do this twice, once will be with a Round 0 that the hand crossbow is readied and one without.Īssuming the player is a 5th level Fighter with Extra attack just to complicate things and assuming the user has crossbow expert so the hand crossbow will be used on the bonus attack, as a reminder the ammunition property loads the arrow/bolt as part of the attack action. I'm unsure what you mean by the rest of your post, as in I'm not seeing what a point blank shot has to do with adding a special attribute to hand crossbow, are you saying that you would rather the special give a +2 to hit bonus at point blank? Or are you talking about if the player has crossbow expert? I'm a little lost certainly Have a wonderful day and thanks for your input.Īlso I apologize if anything here comes across as impenetrable to read, I'm working on 2 hours of magical things are the realm of the DM, I'm trying to see if this suggestion can work out with the raw. That's my idea on what to suggest, if anyone has a better idea or way of getting this done, I'm all ears. This DPR wise changes nothing or shouldn't change anything as the highest dice finesse light weapon is a 1d6, however with dual wielder it's a d8 but if you've invested two feats to get dual wielder and crossbow expert then I think it's probably fair. Now with feats like dual wielder the light requirement changes but it should work the same without offering any added bonus that was not intended by the feat, with crossbow expert the obvious bonus is that you can use the crossbow expert provided bonus attack at its near optimal ability without wielding only one hand crossbow. The other way is that you draw the hand crossbow first, if you do this then on the next turn you get then you can draw your next weapon if it's light as part of the action. The way I went at this is I tried to avoid the player being able to draw two weapons at once, you can have your crossbow at the ready before the encounter and on your first turn draw a short sword or dagger as part of the attack action. What that does is it prevents you from stowing your weapon at the end of your turn so you can reload your crossbow when you go to attack with it again. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The big issue with the concept of using a melee weapon with a hand crossbow is that to reload you need a free hand that makes sense, the issue arises when you realize that to sheathe or unsheathe you need to manipulate an object, which can only be done once a turn as part of your movement. While a readied Hand Crossbow is being wielded or after at least one turn of wielding a hand crossbow in one hand, as part of the attack action a light melee weapon can be unsheathed once per round. The alteration deals with the hand crossbow itself adding a property to the raw for "Special".Ĭrossbow, Hand || 75GP || 1d6 piercing || 3lb || Ammunition (Range 30/120), light, loading, special I am trying to come up with a suggestion I can send to the considerate folks at Wotc and wanted all the pro player and DM opinions that I can find here before I get to find out how game breaking the suggestion is and why it was never applied. I'm aware that most DM's house rule that you simply reload regardless as the damage is pretty much the same if you just use the hand crossbow by itself, if anything simply using the hand crossbow by itself is superior in every way. I'm completely aware of the issue with reloading without a free hand and so I'm going to try to remove this issue in a very narrow way. The topic is about specifically the hand crossbow and it's usage with a melee weapon and two-weapon fighting. ![]() You can manage and turn off auto-renewal in your Apple Account Settings. ![]() ![]() Cancellation requests made prior to the end of the period will become effective at the end of that period term. Mac OS 8.0, released six months later, continued to integrate Copland technologies into the Mac OS. These updates began with Mac OS 7.6, released during WWDC. This ultimately led to Apple buying NeXT and developing Rhapsody which would eventually evolve into Mac OS X in 2001 (now named macOS).Īt the Worldwide Developers Conference in January 1997, Apple chief executive officer (CEO) Gil Amelio announced that, rather than release Copland as one monolithic release, Copland features would be phased into the Mac OS following a six-month release cycle. ![]() In August 1996, Apple chief technology officer Ellen Hancock froze development of Copland and Apple began a search for an operating system developed outside the company. With a dedicated team of 500 software engineers and an annual budget of $250 million, Apple executives began to grow impatient with the project continually falling behind schedule. The release date was first pushed back to the end of 1995, then to mid-1996, late 1996, and finally to the end of 1997. The Copland development was hampered by many missed deadlines. The system was intended to be a full rewrite of the Mac OS, and Apple hoped to beat Microsoft Windows 95 to market with a development cycle of only one year. Copland was to be followed by Gershwin, which promised memory protection spaces and full preemptive multitasking. Apple intended Copland as a fully modern system, including native PowerPC code, intelligent agents, a microkernel, a customizable interface named Appearance Manager, a hardware abstraction layer, and a relational database integrated into the Finder. It was announced in March 1994 alongside the introduction of the first PowerPC Macs. Starting in 1988, Apple's next-generation operating system, which it originally envisioned to be "System 8" was codenamed Copland. Its successor, Mac OS 9, was released on October 23, 1999. ![]() It features PowerPC native versions of QuickDraw, AppleScript, and the Sherlock search utility. As it came at a difficult time in Apple's history, many pirate groups refused to traffic in the new OS, encouraging people to buy it instead. Mac OS 8 is one of Apple's most commercially successful software releases, selling over 1.2 million copies in the first two weeks. Mac OS 8 helped modernize the Mac OS while Apple developed its next-generation operating system, Mac OS X (renamed in 2012 to OS X and then in 2016 to macOS). Released over a series of updates, Mac OS 8 represents an incremental integration of many of the technologies which had been developed from 1988 to 1996 for Apple's overly ambitious OS named Copland. The 2011 edition of the NEC listed four means to reduce clearing time. Clearing time refers to the length of time necessary for an overcurrent protective device to extinguish the arc completely. Incident energy is a function of current and time, so if the arcing time is reduced, the incident energy will be reduced. One of the units used to measure incident energy is calories per centimeter squared (cal/cm 2).” A method used to calculate incident energy may be found in IEEE 1584, Guide for Performing Arc Flash Hazard Calculations. Incident energy, as defined in NFPA 70E, Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace®, is, “The amount of energy impressed on a surface, a certain distance from the source, generated during an electrical arc event. ![]() What does clearing time have to do with arc energy reduction? To answer this question we need to understand incident energy. If the overcurrent device in the circuit breaker meets this criterion, then documentation and a method to reduce the clearing time must be provided. ![]() This means that even though an electronic trip circuit breaker with a 1200 A sensor has its current rating switch set to, for example, 0.5 (600 A), it will still require an arc energy reduction means (see Figure 4). You may recognize this wording as it is similar to that used in Section 230.95 to define when ground-fault protection of equipment is required. These questions were answered in the 2014 edition of the NEC which requires arc energy reduction where the highest continuous current trip setting for which the actual overcurrent device installed in a circuit breaker is rated or can be adjusted is 1200 A or higher (see figure 3). But what about a circuit breaker that has an adjustable instantaneous trip function that has been set to OFF (see figure 1)? And what about a circuit breaker that has a fixed instantaneous override (see figure 2)?įigure 1. But what does that mean? It obviously refers to a circuit breaker with no instantaneous trip function at all. In the 2011 edition of the NEC, arc energy reduction was required whenever a circuit breaker does not have an instantaneous trip function. Since the reason for the requirements is improved worker safety, to be accomplished by reducing the arc flash hazard, the new title makes better sense. Why the title change? The former title referred to when the requirements in the section applied while the new title refers to what the requirements in the section are intended to accomplish. In the 2014 edition, it has been changed to Arc Energy Reduction. The title of 240.87 in the 2011 edition was Non-instantaneous Trip. Quotations from the NEC are shown in italics. Let’s take an in-depth look at the changes and what they mean. This section has changed significantly in the 2014 edition. The motivation was to protect electrical workers better from the arc flash hazard when a short time delay is used to slow down the operation of a circuit breaker to achieve coordination in an electrical system. ![]() It required the use of Zone Selective Interlocking (ZSI), differential relaying, energy-reducing maintenance switching or an approved equivalent means where a circuit breaker without an instantaneous trip function is used. This section was added to Article 240 in the 2011 edition of the NEC. Now that the 2014 edition of the National Electrical Code ® ( NEC ®) has been published let’s look at what’s new in the requirement for arc energy reduction in Section 240.87. ![]() These remotes will also be able to support a larger number of devices with the one remote, as well as set up custom activities that action several commands at once. Take a step up in price, and many mid-tier universal remotes boast companion apps and large databases that let you just select the TV or receiver you have on your mobile device: it's quicker, easier and less of a hassle to add new devices, in case your AV setup ever changes. ![]() ![]() The best universal remotes are the perfect answer in both cases, and almost every universal remote uses infrared (or IR): the same signal protocol used by remote manufacturers as well. If you're wondering why you should buy one, there are two key scenarios where they're ideal: either you've lost your original remote and are looking at a pricey replacement, or you're wanting to have fewer remote controls because your AV experience needs streamlining. The difference is that these devices are able to imitate the signals sent by your TV's original remote, AV receiver or other device. Simply put, universal remotes are more advanced remote controls – exactly like the ones that come with your TV. Why you can trust TechRadar We spend hours testing every product or service we review, so you can be sure you’re buying the best. That’s likely why one of the biggest makers of universal remotes, Logitech has recently said it will no longer be manufacturing its series of Harmony universal remotes – although support for them is still available. With the rise of voice-activated smart speakers, like the Amazon Echo with Amazon Alexa and Google Home with Google Assistant, the humble universal remote may have less of a role to play in the present day living room than it had in its heyday a few years ago. To help you avoid overspending on one of the best universal remotes, we've put together a complete guide to everything you need to know about these futuristic clickers, including how they work, how much you should realistically spend on one for your home, and which models we'd recommend above all else. But how do you go about finding the ideal universal remote? There's lots of options available, meaning it can be tricky to figure out if the cheaper remotes out there will be good enough, or if you need to splash out on a $300 / £300 / AU$500 clicker that might not be worth it in the long-run. ![]() The completed one-off generated interest at the time, but had meager power, European looks, and a correspondingly high cost, so it never proceeded to production.
